Charging a Volvo electric vehicle is about to get even simpler. Volvo Cars is introducing Plug & Charge functionality for Volvo EX90 vehicles today, with the feature coming to the all-new Volvo EX60 when U.S. deliveries begin later this year.
For electric vehicle drivers, public charging is becoming an increasingly important part of everyday life. Volvo Cars is making that experience more convenient with Plug & Charge, a technology that allows drivers to simply plug their Volvo EV into a participating public charging station and begin charging—without opening an app, swiping a credit card or manually starting a charging session.
Once Plug & Charge is activated, the vehicle and charging network communicate automatically to authenticate the vehicle and process payment. In other words, drivers can plug in and walk away while the charging session takes care of itself.
Plug & Charge Comes to Volvo EX90 and EX60
Plug & Charge is available today for Volvo EX90 drivers in the United States and will be available for the Volvo EX60 when U.S. deliveries begin later this year.
The technology will work across participating charging networks, including compatible Tesla Superchargers and IONNA charging locations in the United States. With access to more than 35,000 charging stations, Volvo EV drivers will have more options for convenient public charging wherever their travels take them.
Compatible charging stations can be located using the built-in Google Automotive System and the Volvo Cars app. When charging is needed during a trip, charging stops can also be incorporated into the vehicle's route, helping drivers spend less time planning where to charge and more time enjoying the road.
Additional charging partners will become available in the future, further expanding the public charging options available to Volvo electric vehicle owners.
