First launched in 2016, Volvo Cars’ connected safety technology uses real-time data shared between connected vehicles to help warn drivers about potential hazards ahead.
The latest software update expands the technology with four new alerts:
- Large Animal Alert can warn drivers when a large animal is detected on or near the road ahead.
- Vulnerable Road User Alert can warn drivers when pedestrians or cyclists are detected on or near highways.
- Roadwork Alert can warn drivers when roadwork is detected ahead.
- Accident Ahead Alert can provide warnings about accidents further along the road, using real-time data from connected Volvo cars and traffic management centers.
Available in the Volvo EX90 and EX60, these new features expand the system’s ability to provide drivers with earlier warnings, particularly in low-visibility conditions such as winding roads or poor weather. They complement existing connected safety features, including Slippery Road Alert and Hazard Light Alert.
Today, more than one million Volvo cars have activated connected safety technology, turning individual journeys into a collective effort to make roads safer. Through the European Data for Road Safety ecosystem, alert data can also be shared with vehicles from other brands and national traffic management centers, extending the potential benefits beyond Volvo drivers.

An enhanced audio experience
The latest software update also introduces Spatial Audio support in CarPlay* for the Volvo EX90, with Dolby Atmos technology.
Enabled by the Bowers & Wilkins premium sound system, which features 25 high-performance speakers, Spatial Audio creates a more immersive, multi-dimensional listening experience, positioning music and vocals throughout the cabin.
Whether listening to a favorite song, a live performance or a podcast, Spatial Audio powered by Dolby Atmos adds greater depth and detail to the experience, making every journey more engaging.
Volvo Cars was recently recognized by S&P Global Mobility as the only legacy carmaker to reach Level 5 capability in software-defined cars. The latest software update demonstrates how Volvo’s software-defined vehicles can continue to evolve, adding new capabilities and improvements over time.
