S60
2015 S60

The Volvo S60 has been redesigned for 2015, with new, dynamic styling that accentuates the car's sporting nature. The sporty feel is emphasized by new, comfortable sport seats and the new Sensus Connected Touch system with unique on-line possibilities.

Design

The new front design increases the S60's road presence with more focused and determined-looking headlamps and more emphasized hortizontal lines. Together with details such as a wider grille and daylight running lights, they give the S60 a striking appearance.

There are several other examples of the attention to detail in the new S60, such as the previously visible washer nozzles, which have been relocated out of sight under the hood, and the headlampwasher jets now sit flush to help create a cleaner bumper line.

S60 Rear

The radar cover has been painted gloss black, which practically makes it disappear in the grille. The chrome frame around the grille has been removed and the new, bigger ironmark badge enhances the S60's self-confident look.

The previous camera-based BLIS (Blind Spot Information System) has been replaced by a radar-based system, which also cleans up the appearance by removing the "bubble" on the underside of the rear-view mirrors.

Another example is the integrated tailpipes, which can be specified with some engine variants. Besides being a beautiful design, the engineers had to develop a way to keep them perfectly aligned despite the fact that at operating temperature, the tailpipes can expand in length by more than an inch.

Scandinavian design is exemplified by beautiful, simple shapes and surfaces with any unnecessary clutter removed. This is evident in the S60's interior design as well. Inside, the authentic materials, such as wood and leather, and the easy-to-use controls combine to create a truly in-command driving experience. Upgrades for 2015 include new upholstery colors, new wood inlays, a new headliner, and metal frames around the air vents and light controls. The gear-knob has also been redesigned and the interior can be specified with additional lighting options.

Heated Steering Wheel and Paddle Shifters

To give drivers in cold climates extra comfort, three-spoke steering wheels can now be specified with electric heating. Also, cars with automatic transmissions can get paddle shifters that give the driver the opportunity to shift gears manually with both hands on the wheel. Cars equipped with a rain sensor can now also get an electrically heated windscreen for rapid de-icing on cold winter days.

Innovative Technology

For 2015, the S60 also sees enhancements to its DTSC system via Corner Traction Control through Torque Vectoring, Advanced Stability Control, and Sport-mode.

When taking a curve, the car's inner driven wheel is braked at the same time as more power is transmitted to the outer driven wheel. Corner Traction Control allows the driver to take the curve more tightly while reducing any tendency to understeer.

The DTSC system also has a sport-mode that makes it possible to drive more actively. By relaxing the anti-spin system, the car increases its ability to be over-steered.

The S60 buyer has a choice of three chassis-types - Dynamic, Four-C (Continuously Controlled Chassis Concept), and R-Design Lower Sport Chassis.

V60 Sensus

Volvo Sensus - An Infotainment System With Direct Access

The S60 features Volvo Sensus, where information from the audio unit, navigation system, mobile phone, and other functions is presented on a high resolution 7-inch color screen in the upper part of the center console. All the functions can be controlled from the steering wheel via a thumb wheel, or through traditional controls directly below the color display.

Focus was on the development of an HMI (Human-Machine Interface) solution that is easy to handle and that does not distract the driver from the main task of driving. Volvo is one of the few manufacturers to give the driver access to all infotainment functions via controls in the steering wheel.

Optionally, Sensus Connected Touch can extend this technology to enable further connectivity and add an infrared beam-scanned touch screen that can be used even when wearing gloves.

Safety and Support

In 2013, the Volvo S60 was one of only two cars that earned the best rating in
IIHS's (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) new small offset frontal crash test, and since its debut, the S60 has earned top safety ratings in both Europe and the United States.

IntelliSafe, Volvo's blanket name for all active safety systems, is an important part of the driver-centric approach in the S60. Safety features, that are available at various trim levels, include  City Safety, which, for 2015 is active at speeds up to 31 mph. The car automatically brakes if the driver fails to react in time - when the vehicle in front slows dramatically or stops - or if the car is approaching a stationary vehicle too fast.

The new Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection Technology, extends Volvo's present detection and auto brake technology to cover certain cyclist situations as well. Other upgrades for 2015 include an Enhanced Blind Spot Information System, which is radar based. The technology can now also monitor and alert the driver to rapidly approaching vehicles. Of course, it still informs the driver about vehicles in the blind spots on both sides.

Cross Traffic Alert (available in the BLIS package), uses radar sensors at the back of the car to alert drivers to crossing traffic from the sides when reversing out of a parking space. This is especially helpful in tight and crowded areas where the side view might be limited due to infrastructure, vegetation or other parked cars.

The energetic S60 sport sedan is the perfect blend of performance, luxury and innovative technology. Its driver-oriented experience delivers on the promise of S60's dynamic exterior design. Coupled with class-leading safety, the S60 is the ultimate expression of confidence.
