Volvo's premium 4-door, 5-seat flagship sedan, the S90, has arrived in Scarborough! It is built on the new Scalable Product Architecture (SPA), Volvo's advanced modular product platform that underpins all new Volvo cars in the 90 and 60 Series.
Like its siblings XC90 and V90, the S90 carries the proud and confident face of Volvo's new design language, along with classic Volvo styling cues. Key features include the iconic "Thor's Hammer" LED headlight design, the new grille and Volvo Iron Mark, and the expressive use of the Volvo word mark on the rear.
New for 2023
The S90 luxury sedan is crafted to optimize personal and business life - with passion for design and smart connectivity.
Two equipment levels:
- Plus (B6 AWD only)
- Ultimate (B6 AWD and Recharge)
All S90s have Bright exterior theme. New exterior colors Bright Dusk metallic and Silver Dawn metallic.
On the inside, Volvo has taken cues from the success of its XC90 model and raised the bar with new details on the dashboard and instrument panel, including new air blades that stand vertically on each side of the Sensus user interface. An air purifier with pre-cleaning shows PM 2.5 and pollen levels through the center display is now standard. Also, the following are now standard on both equipment levels of the S90:
- 360-Degree Camera
- 4-Zone Automatic Climate Control (NA on Recharge models)
- Heated steering wheel
- Heated rear seats.
Connectivity
The S90 has been updated with the inclusion of Volvo's next-generation infotainment system. It comes with Google Automotive Services (GAS) and a complimentary four-year subscription to the Digital Services Package that includes:
- Google Maps, Google Assistant, and Google Play Store including data
- Volvo Cars app remote services with features such as remote lock/unlock
2023 S90 Powertrain technology:
- B6 AWD: This next-generation powertrain builds on the already highly efficient and lightweight 4-cylinder engine. As a mild hybrid (MHEV) engine, the B6 adds electrification through a new 48V system combined with a 13 HP ISG (Integrated Starter Generator). This powertrain delivers 295 HP and 310 lb.-ft. of torque. The B6 is equipped with shift-by-wire as well as brake-by-wire technology. The latter allows for brake energy to be recuperated and used for improvements in overall efficiency and fuel economy. Customers will love that fuel economy, and by reducing CO2 emissions, we're staying true to our core value of environmental responsibility. Our plug-in hybrid combines an electric motor with a powerful combustion engine to produce a combined 400 HP and 472 lb.-ft. of torque, and delivers optimum fuel economy, lower CO2 emissions, and exhilarating performance!
- Recharge T8 eAWD Plug-in-Hybrid: The specially modified version of the 4-cylinder gasoline engine features both a supercharger and a turbocharger for a total power output of 313 HP and 295 lb.-ft. of torque. The 11.6 kWh high-voltage (270 - 400V) battery uses next-generation technology that reduces complexity and doesn't affect interior space. The rear electric motor delivers 87 HP (65kW) and 177 lb.-ft. of torque.
S90 Safety Systems
Volvo's leadership in the field of automotive safety is confirmed in the S90. Volvo's City Safety Technology, standard on all Volvo models, combines automatic breaking functionality and collision avoidance systems to cover a range of potential accident scenarios and help keep you safe.
City Safety's functionality is further extended in the S90 with Large Animal Detection, designed to help avoid or mitigate collisions with large animals such as moose. An auto-steer functionality which helps to keep you on the road, called Run Off Road Mitigation, has also been added.
Safety Assistance is the umbrella term for all collision avoidance functionalities (e.g., Collision Warning; Collision Avoidance; Lane Keeping Aid). Standard on all 2022 S90 trims.
Driver Awareness features are like a "co-pilot" who is watching out for potentially dangerous situations and ready to intervene if necessary (e.g., Blind Spot Information System with Steer Assist; Cross Traffic Alert with Auto Brake). Standard on all 2023 S90 trims.
Driver Assistance features include the 2023 S90's standard Pilot Assist with Adaptive Cruise Control and the optional Head-Up Display (HUD).
Connected Safety features are based on cloud connectivity and designed to share information with other Volvo connected cars (e.g., Slippery Road Alert, Hazard Light Alert). Standard on all Volvo vehicles.
Volvo's overall safety offering, called IntelliSafe, encompasses both active and passive safety systems and forms the groundwork for Volvo's leadership in the field of autonomous drive. The S90 already offers semi-autonomous drive with Pilot Assist, which works up to 80 mph on clearly marked roads. Pilot Assist is another step towards Volvo's Vision 2020, which states that no one should be killed or seriously injured in a new Volvo by 2020.
Connected Safety alerts also appear in the instrument panel and Head-Up Display (if equipped).
