The XC60 is one of Volvo's most successful models, and it's been completely refreshed for 2022.
The big news for powertrains is the introduction of the B5 FWD/AWD and B6 AWD. This mild hybrid (MHEV) technology helps the engine to use fuel in a more efficient way. It recovers energy generated by braking. When you press the brake pedal or use engine braking, the kinetic energy that otherwise would have been lost in heat is converted into electric energy and fed into the 48V battery. Some benefits of the mild hybrid are: a more comfortable driving experience with the engine restarting seamlessly and a smoother acceleration from a standstill. These vehicles will also have a shift-by-wire transmission.
The exteriors for all three trim levels (Momentum, R-Design, and Inscription/Recharge Inscription Expression) have been updated, with new front and rear fascia, grille designs, and wheels. The tailpipes on all trim levels are hidden.
The interiors have been updated and now include the next-generation infotainment system. It comes with Google Automotive Services (GAS) and a complimentary four-year subscription to the Digital Services Package that includes:
- Google Maps, Google Assistant, and Google Play Store including data
- Volvo Cars app remote services with features such as remote lock/unlock
- Wireless (inductive) smartphone charging
The front USB ports are now USB-C, so there is a total of four in the vehicle (two up front and two in the rear).
A new tailored steering wheel is standard on the Momentum, while the R-Design gets a new tailored Sport steering wheel that's leather-free.
XC60 Safety Technology:
Safety Assistance is the umbrella term for all collision avoidance functionalities (e.g., Collision Warning; Collision Avoidance; Lane Keeping Aid). Standard on all 2022 XC60 trims.
Driver Awareness features are like a "co-pilot" who is watching out for potentially dangerous situations and ready to intervene if necessary (e.g., Blind Spot Information System with Steer Assist; Cross Traffic Alert with Auto Brake). Standard on all 2022 XC60 trims.
Driver Assistance features include Pilot Assist with Adaptive Cruise Control and the Head-Up Display (HUD). Optional on the 2022 XC60.
Connected Safety features are based on cloud connectivity and designed to share information with other Volvo connected cars (e.g., Slippery Road Alert, Hazard Light Alert). Standard on all Volvo vehicles.
Connected Safety alerts appear in the instrument panel and Head-Up Display (if equipped).
